City police chief Supt. Leopoldo Cabanag said he believes that there are two different groups responsible for the burglary incidents at the Agencia Belen pawnshop and the Belciña Jewelry Store in Dumaguete.
According to Cabanag, the leader of the group that robbed the Agencia Belen over the weekend and carted close to half a million pesos worth of jewelry, was a former member of the notorious robbery/hold-up Kuratong Baleleng gang that targets pawnshops, banks and similar business establishments.
Two of the suspects were presented to the city mayor on Monday following their arrest.
In the case of the Belciña Jewelry Store, Cabanag said they are still digging deeper into the robbery incident as the owners are allegedly not very cooperative with the police.
He believes, though, that a different group, perhaps members of the Acetylene Gang, was behind the break-in that led to the loss of millions of pesos in jewelry and cash during the height of the Holy Week observance this year. (PNA)
