President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo sees the full economic development of Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental due to the big road projects that are set to be completed before she steps down from office in June.
President Arroyo flew Tuesday to this farthest town of Surigao del Sur from Socorro town in Surigao del Norte for the third leg of her Super Regions tour, to inaugurate the P50-million Socorro Feeder Port in Socorro town, Surigao del Norte and do on-site inspection of the ongoing Lingig-Boston Section of the Surigao-Davao Coastal Road.
Mrs. Arroyo, along with some of her Cabinet members including Press Secretary Crispulo J. Icban, Jr., Transportation Secretary Leandro Mendoza, Environment Secretary Horacio Ramos and Mindanao Super Region Champion Secretary Jesus Dureza were warmly welcomed by a huge crowd from the education sector, farmers and household beneficiaries of “Pantawid sa Pamilyang Pilipino Program†or 4Ps.
Top provincial and municipal officials led by Governor Vicente Pimentel, Surigao del Sur 2nd district Rep. Francisco Garay, Rep. Philip Pichay (1st district, Surigao del Sur) and Lingig Mayor Jimmy Luna also welcomed the President and her group.
Along with newsmen, Mrs. Arroyo on board a bus made a drive-through to inspect the ongoing ground works of the unpaved 15 kilometers road that will finally connect the town of Boston, in Davao Oriental province to Southern Mindanao (Region 11).
