ILOILO CITY – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is eyeing to pass the 2018 Executive Budget of the city government here before the end of this month.
The proposed PHP2.28-billion budget was endorsed to the council last Oct. 11 and was referred to the committee on appropriations, chaired by majority floor leader Eduardo Peñaredondo.
On Thursday, Peñaredondo said they hope to pass the budget by November 28.
Next year’s budget is 10.6 percent higher compared with the 2017 appropriations.
Of the proposed budget, PHP1.28 billion or 58.29 percent will be sourced from local taxes; PHP912.90 million or 41.26 percent from its Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share; and PHP10 million or .45 percent from the share in the Economic Zone.
Mayor Jose Espinosa, in a previous interview, said there is not much increase in next year’s budget, citing that almost all of the offices have requested for “status quo”.
“Basically, it’s the same budget that was prepared previously but the income estimate based on the budget call was almost similar to 2017,” he said.
The budget was prepared during the time of former Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog but it was Espinosa who signed the endorsement to the city council.
In the five-year budget comparison starting 2014, the highest increase was in 2014 with 11.3 percent. The 2014 budget was PHP1.58 billion.
The budget increased by 10.9 percent in 2015; and 10.7 percent in 2016. This year, the budget was PHP2.09 billion. (PNA)
