ILOILO CITY -- About 1,000 protesters from Panay island on Thursday gathered in this city calling on President Rodrigo Duterte to declare a revolutionary government.

Led by the Visayas Management Council of the Hugpong Federal Movement of the Philippines Inc. (HFMP), the rallyists stressed that revolutionary government (RevGov) would be the shortest way for the country to attain change toward federalism.

Fortunato Pelaez, president of the group, said it is still hard for the President to push for his dream of federal form of government over a year and almost six months since he assumed the post.

“Under the federal government, the President would be able to clean the corrupted government and would remove criminality and illegal drugs in our society,” he said.

“If we dream of a brighter future for our children, it is high time that we leave with a legacy of change in our society,” he added.

The pro-RevGov protesters started with a caravan and parade from the provincial capitol here and staged their rally at the Plazoleta Gay, Iznart Street, City proper.

Pelaez expressed hope that the Chief Executive would hear their call and declare a revolutionary government “now.”

The group’s protest in this city is in conjunction with the country’s commemoration of the 154th birth anniversary of the Andres Bonifacio, the Father of Philippine Revolution.

Ilonggos also observed the anniversary through a simple program at the monument of Bonifacio in the village of Tanza, Iloilo City.

Meanwhile, Mayor Jose Espinosa III stressed the value of unity of all Ilonggos and every Filipino people across the country in the attainment of progress.

In his speech during the simple program, Dominique Maquiran, associate professor of the University of the Philippines in Visayas inspired the Ilonggos by pointing out how Bonifacio has offered his life and bravely fought against the invaders of our country long time ago.

“Bonifacio’s revolution is relevant in his age but still very relevant in the ages to come. Revolution is important in the areas of education with our great educators today and in the area of government with our great leaders today. Revolution is needed for positive change,” he stressed. (PNA)
