Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) expressed interest in adopting the city's regulations against littering and jaywalking nationwide, according to Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog.
The city strictly implements ordinances against jaywalking, littering and smoking.
Mabilog said DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo personally called him up and asked about the secrets of successful implementation of the city’s anti-jaywalking, anti-littering and anti-smoking ordinances.
“He wants to know how we were able to do it here in the city. Consequently, he also wishes to adopt these practices in the whole country,†Mabilog said.
The city government takes pride in the hard work done by Social Services Unit (SSU) teams in carrying out the regulations.
Mabilog said he would beef up the number of SSU personnel going around the city to ensure the implementation of the ordinances.
The agents of Iloilo City Anti-Smoking Task Force (ICAST), chaired by city councilor Joshua Alim, were also directed to strengthen their apprehension of violators.
At the start of Mabilog’s administration, he has ordered the intensified implementation of ordinances and to effectively carry out the law despite being branded as “cheerleader†by local media. - PNA, source
