Iloilo City Mayor Happy to Leave Iloilo
« on: May 31, 2010, 07:55:10 PM »
Iloilo City mayor and congressman-elect Jerry P. Trenas will leave Iloilo City with a sound financial standing and as one of the local government units (LGUs) in the country to be included in the billionaire’s list.

Mayor Jerry P. Trenas said he really worked to ensure that this city will attain financial stability.

He cited that to date there are even on-going construction of buildings that will enhance the economic situation of the city and boost the collection of this local government unit (LGU).

The city’s 2010 budget is about P1.2 billion and Trenas expects it to increase to a little more than five percent in the 2011 appropriations. - pna

Thanks, Philippines, for this news item. It's nice to hear about LGUs and billionaires.

By the way, welcome to TB, newbie. It's a keen pleasure to welcome an old, er, a new member, to this forum.

wow!  would that our own mayor would leave tagbilaran just as happy for the same reasons.  no, i don't mean for tagbilaran to be a billionaire lgu.  but for the city to be just fiscally healthy may not be too much to hope for.

thanks hubag and islander for the affectionate welcome.
unfortunately, tagbilaran is a bankrupt city, a fertile breeding ground for all hoodlums. 3 hold-ups in a day...

in the late 1980s, after the current mayor became post-edsa oic by virtue of his blood relations with emmanuel pelaez, local pundits had come up with an anecdote, bohol-style, about 3 candidates for congress who were said to be all difficult to vote for because one was 'no talk' (agana, who couldn't speak the dialect), another was 'no walk' (lapez, who was on a wheelchair), and the other was 'putok' (lim, who was reportedly involved in a shooting incident).

it looks like that early in our mayor's political career, something was already afoot.  we need not wonder about hoodlums in our midst now.
