(PNA) – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) 11 which covers Western Visayas is optimistic that it can achieve its collection goal for the year initially set between P5.7 and P6 billion.
BIR 11 officer-in-charge/regional director Atty. Glen Geraldino said the agency was short by about 13 percent from its P5.6 billion target collection last year but with the trend now, he was optimistic that it could be attained.
This January alone, he said, the agency overshoot its collection goal by 54 percent, or by about P166 million compared with the same month last year.
The agency collected about P307 million last month as against the P473 collection a year ago.
“If we can sustain the intensity of what we are doing, the close monitoring of the compliance of our taxpayers and we are conducting ‘Oplan Kandado’ for non-compliers I am positive that I can reach our goal,†he said.
Geraldino also said that the increased collection last month was a good indication that indeed the economy was picking up. (PNA)
