ILOILO CITY -- The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) will observe strict security measures at the Iloilo International Airport this holiday season.

“This is a call to all that they should be early for their flights, otherwise, they will be late because of the security preparations,” said CAAP Iloilo terminal supervisor Art Parreño on Monday.

The Airport Security Committee (ASC) met Friday and agreed that stricter measures will be imposed in all entrances of the airport following an alert issued by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

It is also in preparations for the anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on December 29.

Parreño added that they met with representatives of Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific to “ensure that there will be seamless check in of passengers” for them to “respond to whatever increase in passengers.”

“Many flights will be coming in due to this holiday season,” he said.

The airport caters to more than 50 flights daily.

CAAP is now observing “Balik Pasko 2017” aligned with the “Oplan Ligtas Byahe” of the DOTr.

“Balik Pasko 2017,” which runs until January 5, 2018, aims to ensure safe, reliable and convenient operations.

“This mandates that all employees assigned on airport operations are not allowed to go on leave,” he explained.

All employees are also advised to observe the “no gift policy” in accordance with Republic Act 6713 or the ethical standards for government employees.

“CAAP Iloilo is planning to put up a tarpaulin at the arrival and departure areas to ensure compliance to the order,” he stated.

Meanwhile, CAAP Iloilo is looking at the increase in traffic of passengers not just this holiday season but with additional flights that will be launched by Air Asia bound for Clark and Cebu in January and March next year. (PNA)
