A Chinese national and his Filipino miner was killed while another small-scale miner was wounded when an explosive placed inside an small-scale gold mining tunnel in Sitio Pirada, Barangay Putting Bato, Cabadbaran City exploded on Monday morning.
Cabadbaran City officer-in-charge Chief of Police P/Insp. Jude Cres G. Milan identified the casualties as Li Xing, 42, Chinese national and allegedly the financier of the small-scale gold tunneling, and Florido Palugod, 52, a native of Purok 6, Barangay Aurelio, Placer, Surigao del Norte.
Slightly wounded was Edison Peňas, 37, married and resident of Apokon, Tagum City.
Initial police investigation report said the victims were placing dynamite inside the gold tunnel when it accidentally exploded
after the Chinese national lit his cigarette while he was about to leave the tunnel. Palugod's face was almost unrecognized due to sharpnel wounds.
Sitio Pirada, Barangay Putting Bato is about 42 kilometers away from Butuan City and about 12 kilometers from city proper of Cabadbaran.
A check from local Bureau of Immigration office here discovered that the Chinese national just renewed here Tourist Visit Visa not working visa as he was supposedly working in a small-scale gold mining tunnel in Cabadbaran City. (PNA)
