Si Lim nga nahinabi sa mga tigbalita kagahapon mibutyag nga nagkaestorya sila sa mayor pinaagi sa cellphone ug mipasalig nga karong Lunes uban sa ilang abogado itugyan niya ngadto sa mga polis si Joavan.

Apan samtang wala pa mosurender si Joavan giklaro ni Lim nga padayon gihapon ang ilang hot pursuit operation batok sa anak sa mayor kinsa gipasanginlang namusil sa usa ka Eduardo Largo Jr. diha sa San Isidro, Talisay City niadtong Huwebes sa kaadlawon.

Matud pa nga nasuko si Joavan kang Largo dihang wala mohatag sa numero sa agalon niini sa gitrabahoang Danryan Marketing nga usa ka car shop diha sa Cebu South Coastal Road.

Si Largo kinsa nakaangkon og mga samad pinusilan sa iyang duha ka bukton nakagawas na kini sa tambalanan niadtong Biyernes sa hapon.

Human sa hitabo ang pamilyang Largo nabalaka sa siguridad sa ilang kinabuhi ilabi na sa tulo nila ka mga anak.

Si Lim nagkanayon nga bisitahon nila ang pamilyang Largo ug tan-awon niya kung unsay iyang mahatag nga tabang.

Sa laing bahin, base sa report si Joavan mipasangil nga dunay bulok sa politika ang pasangil batok kaniya ug si Largo giingong gigamit lang kini sa politiko aron pagdaot kaniya ug maapektohan ang iyang amahan kinsa mikandidato karon pagka- konsehal sa siyudad.

Apan si Largo nagkanayon nga bisan kanus-a wala siya magkuyog-kuyog og politiko diin ang iyang trabaho kaniadto pagpangarga lang diha sa Carbon Market ug nagmaneho og traysikad ug nalipay siya dihang gitanyagan siya og trabaho sa tag-iya sa car shop ug sweldohan og P1,000 ang semana.

Sa nahitabo kaniya karon magping-it na usab sa tumang kalisud ang iyang pamilya tungod kay dili man siya makatrabaho.

IT WOULD be interesting to find out how outgoing Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez and his patron Eduardo Gullas, outgoing first district congressman and a candidate for mayor in the May polls, would react to Joavan Fernandezâ€™s latest caper. Brod Socâ€™s son was involved in a shooting incident at the South Road Properties side of Barangay San Roque, Talisay that wounded a poor watchman at 1 a.m. yesterday.

The incident came a few days after Gullas told reporters he would rather that Soc will have Joavan arrested and placed under rehabilitation. Joavan is a known drug user.

Fernandez, at this stage, can be considered a lame-duck mayor. He is on his last term and has been forced by circumstances to run for city councilor instead of for the higher post of vice mayor. Gullas is favored to take over the post Soc will vacate, although the opposition in Talisay led by businessman Johnny de los Reyes want to have a say that. Either way, Soc wonâ€™t be mayor in June.

Joavan has been able to evade punishment for his scrapes with the law because of his fatherâ€™s political influence. Soc has been accused of using that influence to ensure that complaints against his son wonâ€™t reach the courts or, if they did, the complainants would back off. The loss, or diminution, of that political influence can spell the end of Joavanâ€™s ability to evade arrest or a long jail stint.

In this latest scrape, Joavan will no longer have the luxury of police chiefs that fear Socâ€™s wrath because of his power to recommend their relief and transfer to another assignment. And this being election season with the fate of Gullasâ€™s party at stake, Soc would be pressured to act with prudence in the case of his son for fear of any backlash from voters come election day.

I am sure Gullas will be watching Soc intently on this one this time around. In the past, Gullasâ€™s position of first district congressman gave him the luxury of not interfering in Socâ€™s handling of his son.

He had a bigger fish to fry, sort of. Now he will be forced to be more emphatic in telling Soc his preferred way of dealing with the Joavan problem.

I would say, therefore, that the noose is tightening on Joavan. Circumstances are changing and the days of leniency are almost over. He may still be able to wiggle his way out of this incident considering that the man he victimized, like his other victims in the past, doesnâ€™t have the resources needed for him to acquire the daring to battle an influential person. He may back off because of fear or other reasons.

But the next scrapes of the law may no longer work in his favor and the result could be violent. We have seen many instances of people who flout the law eventually reaching a dead end. Itâ€™s something that Brod Soc should prepare for if he remains adamant on his preferred way of reforming his son.

I donâ€™t think the mayor, a Catholic faith defender, really has the temperament to have Joavan arrested and force him into rehab. He is too meek for this job. I have heard stories of how the son has been â€œabusingâ€ the father, which means that both fear as well as parental love have prevented Soc from exerting his will as a father. Maybe Gullas, when he becomes mayor, would be able to help Soc in this regard by doing what he himself has been advising his ally for years now.

And I hope Joavan, too, will see the light, or he would end up with that light being snuffed out of him.

while his being a catholic defender is appreciated, it looks like fire and brimstone could not stay the evil that lurks nearby. it seems to me like he's in denial. a catholic defender with a wayward son? why should he believe it? his son can do no evil because he's a catholic defender. oh-oh.

JOAVAN Fernandez will surrender to authorities tomorrow.

Talisay City Police Station Chief Elmer Lim said Joavanâ€™s father Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez assured him of this yesterday.

Lim said the mayor feared for the life of his son who is the subject of a manhunt after he allegedly shot 36-year-old Eduardo Largo Jr., a car shop watchman in Barangay San Isidro, at dawn last Friday.

Lim said he expects Fernandez to keep his promise.

Fernandez, though, reportedly told Vice Mayor Alan Bucao, his partymate in Alayon, that he wonâ€™t give up Joavan since there is no case filed yet against his son.

Manhunt continues

The police official said they will continue to look for Joavan with the help of the Provincial Intelligence Branch of the Cebu Provincial Police Office and Regional Intelligence Division of the Police Regional Office 7.

Lim said they will charge Joavan with frustrated murder tomorrow.

He said Joavan will be safe in police custody.

Joavan, in an earlier report, said he no longer trusted Lim, whom he accused of being used by a politician.

Meanwhile, the mayor said Joavanâ€™s latest caper wonâ€™t affect his candidacy because the constituents love him.

He said he has championed the poor and the underprivileged during his nine years as mayor, receiving awards from the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Manila in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Fernandez said the logbook where Joavan was staying at the time of the shooting will show that Joavan was there and not at the crime scene.

He said a barber will also testify and is willing to execute an affidavit that he was cutting Joavanâ€™s hair at the time of the incident.

â€œIf this is true, so how can he be at the same places at the same time? No matter how many cases Joavan faced in the past, that cannot be a reason to prejudge him. Letâ€™s get to the truthâ€, the mayor said.

Largo was shot around 12:30 a.m. last Friday.

Fernandez said he had nothing to do with Joavanâ€™s statement accusing Rep. Eduardo Gullas (Cebu, 1st district), who is running for Talisay City mayor, of framing him.

Fernandez said maybe his son made the statement because he was prejudged by the person who said he would order the police to arrest him.

Largo, in a separate interview, said he didnâ€™t expect Joavan to shoot him.

Both men reportedly belong to the Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity, but Largo said Joavan might not know him because he (Largo) is an ordinary member.

Financial assistance

He said Joavan asked him for the shop ownerâ€™s contact number but he didnâ€™t know it since he was only hired recently.

â€œIya lang kong kalit gipusil bisan wala nako siya unsaa (He shot me even though I didnâ€™t do anything to him),â€ Largo said.

He said he saw a hand grenade in Joavanâ€™s pocket, prompting to run despite being wounded.

â€œBasin ilabay pa lang niya nako (I was afraid he would lob it to me),â€ Largo said.

He admitted that his family has suffered because he canâ€™t go back to work with his injuries. (Largo has three children with wife Nira.)

However, he said his boss promised to shoulder his medical expenses and give his family financial assistance.

Last week, Joavan was also accused of intimidating a woman who refused to allow him to post a campaign poster of his father outside her house.
