Opening Brighter Opportunity for Michael
Meet Michael Bantilan, a six-year old resident of Prk. 7, Brgy. Maduao, Panabo City, Davao del Norte. He is the fourth child out of six children of Mrs. Hazel Bantilan, 26 years old and Mr. Aljun Bantilan, 29 years old.
Michael suffered from hydrocephalus since his birth wherein his head enlarges due to abnormal build-up of cebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the cavities of the brain. Luckily for Michael he can manage to carry his head and walks on his own.
Since Mrs. Bantilan is a plain housewife and Mr. Bantilan works as a backhoe operator, their income is enough for their basic needs. Life is tough for the family especially that we are now in the Pandemic of COVID-19.
When Mr. and Mrs Bantilan knew about the free Baptism offered by R-PSB Team Maduao led by PLT SAMMYBOY R OCOCA scheduled on October 13, 2020 at the gym of the barangay, they immediately registered their five children including Michael. As Mrs. Bantilan told us during our interview before the Mass Baptism “Lipay kaayo ko mabunyagan na akoang mga anak nga libre. Si Michael, mag Kinder 1 sunod tuig, magamit jud iyaha baptismal.†(I am grateful that my children will be baptized for free. Michael will enroll next school year to Kinder 1, his baptismal is a big help.)
For families like the Bantilan family, payments for baptism and birth registration are expenses that are least prioritized. Food on their table weighs more in their budget. The initiative of R-PSB Team Maduao to conduct Mass Baptism for free in the barangay gives a huge impact especially to families who have low income. DNPPO is even more grateful to Regional Chaplain Service PRO 11 headed by PLTCOL MARLOU N LABARES and Police Regional Office 11 headed by PBGEN FILMORE B ESCOBAL, Regional Director for accommodating Barangay Maduao as one of their recipients of Mass Baptism.
We are only one step forward on services offered by Revitalized Pulis sa Barangay. PCOL HACHUELA, Provincial Director of DNPPO stated that there are more government services that will be delivered to depressed and isolated areas in the province. One step at a time, we can attain a sustainable community for GIDAS areas and a better opportunity for individuals like Michael.
