Cases of human rights violations in Western Visayas are decreasing, the Commission on Human Rights 6 (CHR-6) said.
From January to November this year, a total of 84 cases in the region were already filed at the commission. Of these, 43 cases were in Negros Occidental, Iloilo, 22; Iloilo City, 11; Aklan, three; Antique and Guimaras with two each and Capiz with only one.
According to Atty. Jonnie Dabuco of CHR-6, most of the complaints that were filed were against members of the Philippine National Police (PNP)with 20; unidentified suspects, 11; civilians, 10; CPP/NPA and Taekwondo teachers, both seven; Philippine Army and husbands, both six.
Other respondents were barangay officials, five; RPA-ABB members, school teachers, fraternity members, and jail guards, all with two; and each one for public official, government employee, NBI agent and Mayor.
Dabuco said the most common complaints were violation of Republic Act 9262 (violation against women and children), 7610 (child abuse), murder, physical injuries, rape, harassments, threat, unlawful arrest, grave misconduct, and hazing. - pna
