The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has turned over some 5,400 board feet of confiscated logs to various government agencies and schools in the province.
Rafael Otic, provincial environment and natural resources officer said the donation was in line with DENR’s thrust to use disposable logs and lumber for public infrastructures.
Otic said the beneficiaries of the seized logs were the Science City of Munoz, with 1,600 board feet; Gabaldon municipal government, 800 board feet; Carranglan Central Elementary School, 1,000 board feet; AFP Regional Intelligence Unit, 1,000 board feet, and Philippine Army, 1,000 board feet.
"As per instruction of DENR Secretary Ramon Paje, we are donating the logs we seized in the previous months not only to schools but also to some government agencies for the repair and rehabilitation of their facilities," he said.
Aside from the confiscated logs, Gabaldon mayor Rolando Bue said that they also received some 300 arm chairs made from illegally-cut seized logs.
"This is just the beginning. We are going to receive an additional 700 chairs which we are going to distribute to different schools in our town," Bue said. - PNA
