Holy Week in Cebu, Philippines

Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador said the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO)-Tourist Police Office will increase police visibility and strengthen their intelligence network in “vulnerable’ areas during the Holy Week.

Areas described as “vulnerable’ by the mayor include pawnshops, convenience stores, money changers, cellular phone shops, and malls.

The Regional Management Council (RMC) assured the safety of travelers during the Holy Week under the Oplan Ligtas of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).

Comendador, CPPO director, said the new 117 police officers would be assigned to the tourist police desks of 50 police stations.

They will perform the usual police functions like enforcing peace and order, but they will “give more emphasis on tourist matters.”

The TPU launch was attended by Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale and Chief Supt. Samuel Yordan, Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 deputy director for administration.

Yordan said the deployment of the tourist cops was timely because tourists would be going to Cebu’s beaches and other resorts during the Lenten break.

He said creation of TPU was part of the PNP’s proactive policy in deterring criminality and promoting crime prevention.”

”The police officers are ambassadors of goodwill, not just law enforcers,’ said Yordan.

Magpale said the creation of CPPO-TPU would help boost province’s tourism and economic activity.

The CPPO is part of the 24 new tourist Police Units (TPUs) that were established nationwide last January to beef up the 14 units established in 2010, following a memorandum of understanding between the Department of Tourism and the PNP.

Comendador said at least two tourist police officers will be assigned to each police station. Six to four tourist police officers will be assigned in busy areas like the beaches in Moalboal, Bantayan, Malapascua Island in Daanbantayan, and Camotes.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
