CEBU CITY -- Government officials and some members of civil society signified their all-out support for the full implementation of the Reproductive Health (RH) Law on Thursday in the 2nd National Family Planning Conference at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino here.
The signing of the pledge of commitment was spearheaded by Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Herminigildo Valle, who said that there is really a need for this program.
According to Valle, policymakers and the people must admit that there is urgent need to moderate our population growth.
“We have to act on it as it is also one of the President’s priority advocacies,” Valle said.
The Health Department is just waiting for the advice from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which contraceptives are considered non-abortifacient before they can fully implement the RH Law, said Valle.
The FDA, which has the primary jurisdiction in determining the non-abortifacient character of contraceptives, is expected to come out with a resolution soon after making the certification and re-certification of product registration.
Once this is done, Valle said they will afford free Reproductive Health and Family Planning services and supplies to the marginalized sector. (PNA)
