Press Release from the South Cotabato Provincial Government
Fowls not affected by ASF, safe to eat during Yuletide season - PVET
Fowls such as chicken, duck or turkey are safe to consume this Christmas season since they are not affected by African Swine Fever (ASF) that affected the hog industry, Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Flora Bigot confirmed. Dr. Bigot disclosed that the ASF virus cannot infect fowls as per tests conducted by experts that is why the consuming public of such meat products have nothing to worry about this holiday season. Catering services here now offered roasted turkey (“lechon pabo) as an alternative to roasted pig (“lechon baboy”), which is much cheaper than the latter with its price ranging from P1,900 to P3,200 only depending on the size of the turkey. South Cotabato has instituted strict measures in curtailing the ASF contagion that hit parts of the country particularly Mindanao through strict compliance of documentary requirements of suppliers in strategic checkpoints in the province coupled with the passage of an ordinance that give penalties to violators.
