A man engaged in small-scale mining and gold panning venture in Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte was killed while his wife was wounded when three bonnet-wearing armed suspects attacked them in their house on Thursday morning.
A belated report from the Agusan del Norte police received by the Caraga Region Police Office based in this regional capital identified the fatality as Rosauro Botilla and the wounded as Alicia Botilla, both of Sitio Dagnasay, Barangay Puting Bato, Cabadbaran town.
Initial police investigation showed the suspects, who initially hid at a grassy portion outside the couple's house, first shot to death Rosauro, using firearms of unknown caliber.
When wife Alicia, who was cooking at that time, heard the gun shots, she immediately responded to help her husband, but she was also fired upon by the assailants.
Luckily, she was not hit and managed to run away, but the suspects eventually caught on her and she was stabbed in the face and legs, the police report said. - pna
