BATANGAS CITY, May 22 (PNA) -- A
teenage girl drowned while three of her friends were hospitalized after they were swept by the waters of Taal Lake in Talisay town on Monday afternoon, police said.
In a report to Senior Supt. Rosauro Acio, Batangas police provincial director, Talisay police chief Sr. Insp. Manuel Maligaya, identified the drowning victim as Janela Marie Dagelio, 14.
Maligaya said the victims, namely Janela Marie Dogelia, Catherine Setiles, 16; Janet Satiles, 14; and Hohn Andrew Catapang, 3, were immediately brought to St. Andrew Hospital in Tumaway, Talisay, but Dagelio was declared dead on arrival by attending physician.
He said all of the victims were residents of Barangay Zone II in Talisay town.
Maligaya said the victims were swimming in the coastal area of the barangay when Catapang was swept by strong waters, bringing him to a deep portion of the lake at around 2 p.m.
He said witnesses told police that Dogelio drowned while she and her friends were trying to save three-year old Catapang.
