The Cebu City Fire Department has raised the damage estimates in the fire that hit a mall in Cebu City from P20 million to P55 million.
But fire officials the amount is only an estimate and is not binding on the findings for actual damage by property insurance experts.
Fire officials said the fire, which hit the Gaisano Capital South Mall at the corner of Leon Kilat and Colon streets shortly after midnight Friday, was completely put out at 4:11 a.m. Wednesday.
SFP3 Fortunato Bucio of the City Fire Department said City Fire Marshall Anderson Comar made the declaration after inspecting the shopping mall.
Bucio said fires that cause damage exceeding P30 million will be investigated by the regional or provincial offices of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) 7.
Eric Labrada, Gaisano Capital South mall liaison officer said work on the removal of damaged parts of the building has resumed.
The Cebu City Office of the Building Official (OBO) recommended the removal of parts of the mall that have been damaged by fire, but the contractor of Gaisano Capital South stopped work on the mall building because its crane was damaged during the rain. - PNA
