DAVAO CITY -- Filipino International Boxing Federation (IBF) World super flyweight champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas “has shown that the Filipino is as good as the best”.

“We are so happy and proud of Jerwin as once again he has shown that the Filipino is as good as the best,” said Abraham Mitra, chairman of the Games and Amusements Board.

Mitra congratulated Ancajas, a native of Panabo City, for retaining his IBF world title via a 6th round technical knockout against Irish challenger Jamie Conlan last November 18 at the SSE Arena in Belfast.

“The result of the bout shows that Jerwin even if champion already has worked hard and is a disciplined fighter. We hope he continuous to perform well and be another inspiration to Filipino boxers just like Sen. Manny (Pacquiao),” said Mitra.

It was the third successful title defense by Ancajas, who previously defended it via a7th round TKO against Japanese challenger Teiru Kinoshita last July 2 in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Jeff Horn championship in Brisbane, Australia. Ancajas (28W-1L-1D, 19 KOs) captured the IBF world crown by dethroning McJoe Arroyo of Puerto Rico via a unanimous decision last Sept. 3, 2016 at the Jurado Hall of the Philippine Marine Corp. in Taguig City.

Ancajas retained it in his first title-defense by stopping Jose Alfredo Rodriguez in the 7th round on January 29 at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort in Macao.

In his second and previous title-defense, Ancajas stopped Japanese Teiru Kinoshita by a 7th round TKO last July 2 at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.

Meanwhile, Engr. Jilson Basang, president of the Mindanao Professional Boxing Association (MinProBA) also congratulated his fellow Panaboan Ancajas.

"Congratulations to our very own Panaboan world champion Jerwin Ancajas for winning his third defense!" said Basang in his Facebook account.

"More power from the Lord champ. To God be the glory. God bless you more and you are family," said Basang, who spearheaded by heroes' welcome to Ancajas recently in Panabo. (PNA) NOVEMBER 2017
