Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria has expressed his concerns on the frequent rotating power brownouts besetting Dumaguete City and the whole Negros Oriental province.
He said the business sector is losing a lot of money because of the power outages, which he said, is very detrimental to a developing city like Dumaguete.
Sagarbarria said members of the business sector have expressed their concerns as it might greatly affect their business if the rotating brownouts will continue longer.
He said that majority of the business establishments in Dumaguete now have generator sets ready in times of power interruptions but it would cost at least P15 per kilowatt hour usage of a generator set.
Even the city government of Dumaguete was forced to recently purchase a generator set for city hall.
Sagarbarria said the frequent brownouts during office hours had greatly affected the operations and transactions at the city hall.
Sagarbarria is appealing to the Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative 2 to fast track negotiations where they can get sustainable power supply for the province.
He believes that consumers would not mind paying higher power rates as long as there is a sustainable and reliable power supply.
During the recent power summit conducted by the Negros Oriental Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI), the business sector expressed a unified stand for a sustainable power supply. (PNA)
