The Cebu City government also scored a victory in last Sunday’s fight of pound-for-pound boxing king Manny Pacquiao against Mexican fighter Antonio Margarito.
The city government gained more than P500,000 in amusement tax and other collectibles from establishments that imposed fees for the pay-per-view showing of the fight, Cebu City Treasurer Ofelia Oliva said Friday.
These establishments included cinemas, hotels, restaurants, and coliseums, she said.
Some of the establishments, especially restaurants, offered different promotions like food and drinks, depending on the amount of the entrance fees that ranged from P200 to P500.
Oliva said that the city treasurer’s office reported that 34 establishments that had pay-per-view showing of the fight were assessed a total of P511,664.49 in amusement tax.
However, the city government has so far only collected P352,171.39 because five establishments that have payables totaling P159,493.10 refused to pay the amusement tax, she said.
