Almost 80 percent of the prisoners at the Davao City Jail suffered from food poisoning after feasting on the meal served by the
Davao City Government during the “Pasko Fiesta sa City Jail†on Tuesday.
Government officials on Thursday confirmed that 781 inmates suffered from loose bowl movement (LBM) after eating fried chicken, gravy, pansit (fried noodles), and rice.
Jail warden Erwin Kenny Ronquillo the jail has around 1,017 inmates as of October this year, which means majority of the detainees suffered from food poisoning.
City Public Information Officer Giovanni Aportadera said the food poisoning may have happened because the inmates consumed their food in the evening when these were intended for lunch.
Aportadera said the City Health Office (CHO) has provided immediate health assistance.
As of this posting Thursday, some 40 inmates are being observed as they continue to suffer from stomach pains.
No accreditation
Meanwhile, General Services Office (GSO) chief Jessie Marvin Melodias said no transaction of food packs for “Pasko Fiesta sa City Jail†went through his office.

City Mayor Sara Duterte also confirmed this, saying there was no accreditation given to the caterer. She guaranteed she would have the matter investigated. - Jade Zaldivar, Sun Star Davao
