Police authorities are now tightening its watch on several firework factories and stores of pyrotechnic products following the explosion of a suspected fireworks factory in Angat, Bulacan that killed an old woman and wounded eight others Monday night.

Chief Supt. Alan La Madrid Purisima, Central Luzon police director, has instructed Sr. Supt. Fernando Villanueva, Bulacan police provincial director to improve their surveillance on fireworks factories to determine if safety measures are being followed by owners.

Purisima also instructed Villanueva to look intently firecracker manufacturers following reports that there are minors being employed in some establishments.

The order of Purisima was prompted when an old woman died and eight others were injured after a clandestine firework.factory in Barangay Marungko, Angat town exploded.

Investigation said a fuse (mitsa) caused a spark and ignited a stockpile of pyrotechnics products.

The lone fatality was identified as Linda Reyes, 54, while those injured were Edgardo Padua, 17; Gena Barcial, 33, Juvilyn Alvarez, 16; Angelita Dizon, 45, Julia Aspe; 30, Alejandro Cruz, 36, Angelito Cruz, 30; and Wiwi Lorenzo, 30. - pna
