POLICE SEIZE P50-MILLION ENDANGERED GIANT CLAM SHELLS IN NEGROS

An entrapment operation on unlawful selling of giant clams or "taklobo" was conducted by authorities in Negros Oriental yesterday February 12, 2021.

Citing in the report to PNP Chief Police General Debold M Sinas, Ricarido Santiana Dela Cruz Jr  was arrested by Operating Units of Crime Investigation and Detection Group RFU 7 Negros Oriental PFU (lead), Bureau Fish and Aquatic Resources, Bayawan City Police Station, Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office(NOPPO) and 1ST Provincial Mobile Force Company, NOPPO during an entrapment operation for unlawfully selling 1,000 Kgs of Giant Clams/Taklobo worth Php5M to a police decoy and possessing an endangered species in Brgy Pagatban, Bayawan City, Negros Orientall.

"This accomplishment ensures that the sustainable conservation and protection of fishery and aquatic resources law is being implemented by our local authorities" ,PNP Chief Sinas said.

As per initial investigation Yan Hu Liang alias Sunny who is still at large is the owner of endangered species with estimated international market value of Php 918 Million.

DELA CRUZ and alias  SUNNY are found violating the RA 8550 as amended by RA 10654 known as the Fisheries Code of the Philippines in relation to Fisheries Administrative Order 208 "Conservation or rare, threatened and endangered fishery species".

Seized from the possession of suspect were the entrapment money; 1,000 kilos giant clams/taklobo shells that were the subject of sale and part of the total inventory of 10,000 MOL kilos of giant clams/taklobo seized in plain view valued at Php 50 Million (selling price); one unit cal .45 pistol Colt; one mag for cal .45; 7 live ammunition for cal .45.

Dela Cruz is temporarily detained at Bayawan City Police Station, NOPPO pending the filing of complaint for Viol of RA 8550 as amended by RA 10654 and RA 10591, while Sunny as owner will be facing case for violating RA 8550 as amended by RA 10654.
