The SN Aboitiz- Power Magat here wants to help the government in mitigating the damaging effects of El Nino to electric power and to the farmers in this region.
The impounded water at the Magat Dam as of press time is recorded at a critical level measuring at 166.26 from its previous normal level of 180-190 meters in the last few months.
SN Aboitiz Plant Manager Melvin Eugenio said over a local radio station here the company will help the government through cloud seeding operations to induce rains at the Magat Dam watershed.
As of press time, rice fields have dried up at alarming levels and can be totally damaged if the dam stops the water supply should the water level continue to drop at a critical level.
Rice farms have been turned to vegetable farms which are on flowering stage that may become damaged due to lack of water.
“Our company has programmed to help the government in cloud seeding operation in order to help our farmers harvest abundantly and keep our hydro power plant continue producing powerâ€, Eugenio added.
SN Aboitiz has already purchased some 1,000 sack of salt through the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Unit 2 (DA-RFU2) and presently coordinating with an airline company in Cauayan City for the cloud seeding operations scheduled anytime starting Monday.(PNA)
