Dumaguete Customs sub-port 2017 tax gains reach P1.7-B
« on: June 01, 2020, 02:01:17 PM »
DUMAGUETE CITY – With less than two weeks to close the year 2017, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) Sub-port of Dumaguete reported a continuous climb in its revenue collections for the whole year with close to Php 1.7 billion already as of December 11.

The latest 2017 comparative collection report of the Dumaguete Customs office showed that its target collection for this year as set by its central office is pegged at a little more than Php 1.3 billion.

But the sub-port’s gains of almost PHP1.7 billion as of latest count has already exceeded the target by some Php 371.944 million or a 28.4 percent increase, records show.

Dumaguete Customs Collector Fe Lluelyn Ganir Toring disclosed that her office is also expecting about Php 122 million more before the year is over as there some more shipments from major exporters arriving within the period.

The three key contributors to the gains earned by the Dumaguete Customs Sub-port due to importation are Fil Oil for petroleum products, DUCOMI for palm olein, and Pryce Gas for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), Toring said.

During the first quarter of this year (covering the months of January, February, and March), the Dumaguete Sub-port office reported an actual collection of some P443.464 million, or some 83.76 percent higher than its target of Php 241.322 million.

In the second quarter (April, May, and June), the Sub-port also reported excess in revenues earned, with an actual collection of Php 425.147 million versus its target of Php 333.852 million, or a variance of 27.35 percent.

The Dumaguete Sub-port in the 3rd quarter months of July, August, and September continued its uphill climb with an actual collection of Php 521.120 million, or 25.40 percent higher than its targeted collection of Php 415.556 million plus.

In the final quarter, just under three weeks to the end of the year, its actual tax collection was pegged at more than Php 285.596 million as opposed to its target of Php 312.654 million.

But Customs Collector Toring said they are confident that even in the fourth quarter, they would still surpass its target collection because of the coming importation from its key clients.

She disclosed that because of the consistent gains by the Dumaguete Customs office in previous years, the BOC main office had increased their target collection for this year.

In 2016, the Dumaguete Sub-port’s target collection was set at only Php 378 million, however, the office reported of excess earnings for the whole of last year, pegged at more than Php 1.154 billion.

Because of this remarkable performance, the BOC upped the Dumaguete Sub-port’s target collection for this year by almost triple the number.

Toring had previously admitted it was a challenge to meet or exceed such a steep increase in their target revenue collection but she is thankful that with the growing economy of Dumaguete City and the province of Negros Oriental, her office has earned more than expected.

The local Customs chief said their office here will be giving citations to major key players as well as other contributors and partners, during their annual Christmas party Monday evening.

While shy about saying whether the Dumaguete Sub-port will once again be cited by the BOC because of its exemplary performance, Toring said the office has been a consistent awardee over the years.

She thanked the people who work for and with her at the local Customs Office, saying that her office wouldn’t have possibly made it this year without everyone’s support and cooperation. (PNA)
