(PNA) -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Regional Office here has posted a P1.4 billion revenue collection for the month of January alone.
BIR regional director Romulo Aguila Jr. said this is a remarkable increase compared to the same period last year of P800 million.
Aguila said the P1.4-billion revenue taxes are almost 25 percent higher than their collection target for the first month of the year.
He attributed the revenue collection growth to the country’s economy which started to show signs of recovery following the adverse impact of the global economic crisis.
"The economy has been showing signs of recovery and with campaign funds pouring in from local and national candidates, we have been seeing a renewed invigoration in the local market economy of Central Luzon," he said.
Based on the records of the BIR-Region 3, the regional district office of Pampanga-South posted the highest collection with some P261 million in revenue taxes.
The regional district Office of Pampanga-North, on the other hand, registered the second highest collection with P162 million.
He said the systematic approach in revenue collection implemented by the BIR is also a big factor in revenue collection growth.
Among these are the strict implementation of the Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) program, the Oplan Kandado and the Santax Claus, which was launched last December.
