4 Nabbed In Playing Mahjong
“Abi nako OKAY ra, kay PAMILYA!”. What came out in the mouth of the four who were caught playing Mahjong.
Gambling in the Philippines is generally restricted by government laws. However, Mahjong is allowed as long as it is "for fun and entertainment with just only one table and no money involved," but it is considered gambling if there is betting and becomes a source of income. “The law may be harsh but it is the law” the PNP is duty bound to implement the law regardless of the consequences.
Hagonoy, Davao del Sur- Intel Personnel of Hagonoy Municipal Police Station led by PLT JOSELITO A CORTES, OIC together with PAIG personnel conducted Anti-Illegal Gambling Operation at Ilang-Ilang St., Gilda Subdivision, Barangay Guihing Hagonoy, Davao del Sur.
Thus, the said operation resulted to the arrest of the following persons namely: Alias “Grace”, 36 years old, married, housewife and a resident of Purok 1, Guihing, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur, Alias “”Ner”, 40 years old, live-in status, driver and a resident of Barangay Tres de Mayo, Digos City, Davao del Sur, Alias “Vin” 48 years old, self-employed, and a resident of Purok 10, Sitio Budoy, Barangay Guihing, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur and Alias “Frank”, 59 years old, jobless and a resident of Gilda Subdivision, Barangay Guihing, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur.
Confiscated from their possession and control were the following to wit;
1. One (1) set of Mahjong Tiles;
2. Three (3) Dices;
3. Php 1, 300 pesos bet money in different denominations;
4. One (1) pencil;
5. One (1) baby powder;
6. One (1) Mahjong Pad;
7. One (1) Table;
8. Four (4) Plastic Chairs.
The arrested suspects were informed of their constitutional rights best understood by them and were temporarily held in this office for proper disposition.
