DOT-12: Tourism promotion continues despite negative news
KORONADAL CITY, Dec. 15 (PNA) -- Tourism stakeholders in Central Mindanao region on Thursday appealed for the public to help contain arson cases against passenger buses and construction equipment in the region.
Admitting the rash of bus burning in the provinces of South Cotabato, Sarangani and Sultan Kudarat have negative impact on tourism industry, Nelly Dillera, Department of Tourism (DOT-12) regional director, said promotion programs of her office shifted to full gear.
"It has negative impact on tourism but we have confidence in our security officials," Dillera told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).
The latest arson case involving passenger bus by suspected communist rebels occurred Tuesday night, that 5th arson case in South Cotabato since Nov. 13.
She said the incidents should not affect the industry and her office's massive promotions.
Generally, Dillera said, the tourists spots in the region remained safe and sound. Tourists, both local and international, continued to arrive in the province of South Cotabato which listed 390,000 tourist arrivals since January this year.
She said while military and police were finding solutions, the tourism stakeholders would continue promoting spots that tourists could visit during the holidays. (PNA)
