DAVAO CITY - Dengue cases in Davao Region grew this year compared to last year with most number of cases coming from Davao City, an official of the Department of Health (DOH 11) regional office said.
Mary Divine Hilario, chief of DOH 11 health education and information, said the number of reported dengue cases posted 9,593 as of October 30, 2013 as against the 8,412 recorded in the same period last year.
However, the number of deaths due to dengue dropped to 60 this year compared to last year’s 90 death incidents, she said.
Of the 60 death incidents, 30 occurred in Davao City, Hilario said.
Of the 9,593 dengue cases reported, 5,757 are from Davao City, mostly from the Buhangin District, Hilario said.
She further reported that Compostela Valley registered 971 dengue cases, Davao del Norte 731, Davao Oriental 1,113, and Davao del Sur 1,004.
Hilario said the rise in dengue cases could be attributed to many reasons, among others, lack of cleanliness campaign, unpredictable weather condition and floodings.
