The city has been placed on full alert in preparation for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on Monday, and after a powerful bomb exploded inside a passenger bus in Matalam, North Cotabato Thursday morning.

Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio ordered law enforcement units in the city to take appropriate actions to prevent a repeat of the incident where 10 people were killed and injured more than 20 other passengers.

The mayor said that "in view of the recent bus bombing in Matalam, we take appropriate measures to safeguard the riding public and other vital installations."

“Do not allow it to happen in Davao City," she said, reiterating her order to the Task Force Davao (TFD), Davao City Police Office (DCPO), Central 911, and Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT).

Colonel Rey Guerrero, TFD chief, said on Friday that he ordered a double deployment of his personnel.

"Among our forces, we have doubled deployment and tomorrow, we are expecting augmentation from the 84th and 69th Infantry Battalions from the 10th Infantry Division, which is in preparation for the elections," Guerrero said.

DCPO director Sr. Supt. Rene Aspera said the city was currently under full alert in connection with the bombing.

"We have intensified the conduct of inspection especially cargo trucks entering the city as a measure to prevent spill over. In cooperation with Task Force Davao, we are intensifying monitoring in the rural areas," he said.

Guerrero said the city police had also provided security augmentation at the Davao International Airport since last week.

"We are also conducting rigid search and inspection. We have recently conducted training with our personnel, which is in preparation also for the elections on Monday," he said.
