DAGUPAN CITY – Mayor Belen T. Fernandez thanked the city council, department heads of the city government and the people in the city whose combined efforts enabled Dagupan to earn its 3rd unprecedented Seal of Good Local Government (SGLG) Award.

Speaking on Aksyon Radyo Dagupan on Tuesday after receiving Dagupan's 3rd SGLG award from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) at the Manila Hotel, Fernandez said the city will double if not triple its efforts in the coming year in order to maintain the award.

DILG City Director Rhoderick M. Dawis said to earn its 3rd SGLG award,  Dagupan passed all assessment areas like the four indicators in the field of financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, and peace and order; and the three essential indicators in business-friendliness and competitiveness, environmental management and tourism, culture and the arts.

Along with Dawis and City Budget Officer Luz de Guzman, Mayor Fernandez  received the SGLG award from DILG Officer-in-Charge Catalino Cuy and Secretary Francis N. Tolentino of the Office of the Political Adviser in the Office of the President, who was the guest of honor and speaker during the awarding rites.

Fernandez reiterated her gratitude to the members of the city council, the different department heads and division heads, city hall employees, national government agencies in the city, and non-government organizations that had all been very supportive of all her programs and projects for the city.

Dawis said that with the SGLG award, the city has the advantage of getting accessibility on the programs and projects provided by the national government and enhancing its capability to secure loans and incentives from government financing institutions.

“This is on top of the Performance Challenge Fund, which the city will receive as an incentive for having received the award,” said Dawis.

A report said the city is set to receive P2.4 million as an incentive, being an SGLG awardee.

Fernandez noted that  this year’s SGLG Award's theme “Gobyernong may Malasakit Tungo sa Pagbabago at Patuloy na Pag-unlad” is synonymous to her program “Pag-asa’t Pagbagbago” which, she said, is now reaping benefits for the city of Dagupan.

The mayor expressed confidence that with  the development of the three growth centers described in the city’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan and Zoning Ordinance, the city is gearing towards progress and modernization aside from providing employment to the city's labor force.

Dagupan was earlier chosen by the Philippine Economic  Zone Authority (PEZA) as the newest economic zone in the country to specialize on Information Technology and Business Process Outsourcing, tourism and other industries. (PNA) NOVEMBER 2017
