Five municipalities from Central Antique received some P4.8-million worth of projects from the Department of Agriculture (DA) simultaneous with the launching of the national convergence initiatives (NCI) program here on Thursday.
Each of the municipalities of Bugasong, Laua-an, Patnongon, Valderrama and Barbaza through their respective farmers' association and cooperative received a small scale composting facility that will enable them to produce their own organic fertilizer totaling to P2.8 million and assorted vegetable seeds and upland rice varieties.
The composting facility includes one unit shredder machine; two units of compost tea brewer and one set spare blade. They were also provided funds for the establishment of three-unit vermin beds and training.
Barbaza was also chosen as the site of the high density abaca nursery that will be implemented by the Fiber Industry Development Authority (FIDA) and the LGU of Barbaza and recipient of drum seeder and power sprayer.
Other projects included the establishment of tramline in Brgy. Igburi, Patnongon town worth P1.595 million that will be used to transport agri-products and inputs and P300,000 transplanter that was turned over to the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.
The turn-over ceremony led by Undersecretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat and assisted by Regional Executive Director Larry Nacionales.
Meantime, Puyat stressed that the projects which are expected to benefit hundreds of small growers of rice, mango and other high-value commercial crops are initials of the commitment extended by their agency to the agro-enterprise development project of Central Antique.
"Through this agro-enterprise development project, we hope to make Central Antique model agricultural communities for Western Visayas and the entire country-progressive, food-secure, agribusiness oriented and environmentally healthy," she said. (PNA)
