A woman and her 12-year-old daughter were stabbed to death by unidentified men, who authorities believe may have been customers of the family’s Internet cafe in Cavite City.
Superintendent Danilo Buentipo, Cavite City police chief, identified the victims as Joan Fecilda and her daughter Lisha.
In a telephone interview, Buentipo said that a loud cry coming from the second floor of the victims' house caught the attention of some members of the local neighborhood watch who were making the rounds of the area in Barangay 54 at around 3 a.m. on Friday.
With some relatives and responding police, the authorities entered the home and found the bodies of Joan on the first floor near the computer shop and that of Lisha in another room.
Joan’s two younger daughters, one about 3 or 4 years old and the other about 7 or 8 years old, were looking for their mother at that time as they wanted to use the bathroom but were locked inside another room.
The family ran a small Internet cafe of about ten computers on the ground floor of their house.
“They did not have a guy in the house. They were all female,†said Buentipo. Joan’s husband works abroad.
Witnesses said two or three male customers were the last to leave the shop.
“The last log-in time in the computer shop was about 12:45 a.m. They usually have someone else watching over the shop but that person left early that night. They did not have a CCTV (camera),†said Buentipo.
