CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao -- Joint elements of the Army’s 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) have arrested Thursday a couple and five others during anti-drug operation in Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat.

Capt. John Arvin Encinas, Army’s 6th Infantry Division spokesperson, said military and PDEA agents collared Albije Biang, his wife and five other relatives who also served as illegal drug couriers.

Biang is considered the leader of an illegal drug group operating in eastern part of Sultan Kudarat province.

Seized from the suspects were five sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride weighing about 25 grams worth about Php30, 000, one M-4 rifle, one .380 caliber pistol, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia.

The suspects have been charged for violating RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and violation of RA 10951 or Illegal Possession of Firearms and Explosives.

Major General Arnel dela Vega, 6th ID commander, who has jurisdiction over Sultan Kudarat province, lauded the Army for providing manpower resources to PDEA-ARMM.

“The Army is in full support to the PDEA, which is now the lead agency in the government’s war on drugs,” he said.

The suspects are now detained at PDEA-ARMM lock up cell in Cotabato City. (PNA)
