Corruption in Ampatuan Massacre Case
« on: August 06, 2014, 07:05:58 AM »
Justice Secretary Leila M. de Lima on Tuesday ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the disclosure of Atty. Nena Santos that she was allegedly offered a Php300-million bribe by the Ampatuans in connection with the Maguindanao massacre case.

The massacre claimed the lives of 58 civilians, including 15 women and 32 media practitioners in Ampatuan town, Maguindanao on Nov. 23, 2009.

Santos, lawyer of Maguindanao Gov. Ismael "Toto" Mangudadatu, earlier divulged that the Php300-million bribe from the Ampatuans which she rejected, may have ended up in the panel of public prosecutors.

According to De Lima, the panel of prosecutors itself is also asking for an investigation.

The DOJ Secretary said the accusation being hurled against the panel is unfair because they are just doing everything they can to secure the conviction of the accused in the Maguindanao massacre case. (PNA)
