BATANGAS CITY – Police here have been serving as lecturers in anti-drug abuse seminars for students in line with its intensified information and education campaign about the ill effects of hard drugs not only in campuses but in the community as a whole.

Batangas provincial public information office chief, Jenelyn A. Aguilera, said the provincial government has lined up a series of seminars where members of the provincial police force serve as lecturers to high school students and their teachers.

Aguilera said that aside from police as resource speakers, representatives of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and Provincial Legal Office expound on the salient features of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

The lecture series and seminars were organized by the provincial government through the Youth and Sports Division of the Provincial Assistance for Community Development Office in a bid to bring awareness on the drug menace among students, teachers and school officials.

Aguilera said that some 65 high school students, faculty and staff of Taysan National High School in San Jose, Batangas were among the seminar participants on Nov. 7 as the anti-drug abuse lectures would be sustained in other schools.

She said Governor Hermilando Mandanas has fully endorsed the anti-drug information and education campaign and ordered the Youth and Sports Division to include training courses on youth leadership and volunteerism.

Mandanas emphasized education as among his governance thrust on HELP or Health, Education, Livelihood and Protection for constituents, especially among the Batangueño millennials.

As part of his provincial administration’s thrust, Mandanas also turned over the financial assistance fund support for students in the province’s third district to Batangas State University (BSU)-Malvar campus through the provincial school board executive assistant Merlita Pasatiempo, to scale up the quality of education among the university’s student-youths.
