LTO-Bayawan City 'motorada' nets over 500 motorcycle registrants
DUMAGUETE CITY, Dec. 19 (PNA) -- The Land Transportation Office (LTO) District Office in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental has successfully staged its motorcycle caravan that resulted in the application for registration of 500 or more motorcycles in its area of coverage.
LTO-Bayawan City district chief Alberta Janine Lawas on Monday disclosed she believes that with the staging of the “1st Motorada: Gasa sa Motorista†motorcycle caravan Saturday, her office has exceeded its target motor vehicle registration for this year.
Lawas, however, could not yet give the exact numbers as her office is still collating data from the weekend “motorada†for those who registered their motorcycles as well as applied for a driver’s license.
The “motorada†is the LTO-Bayawan District Office’s initiative to encourage motorcycle owners in their area of responsibility (AOR) to have their units registered, explained Lawas.
Its AOR include Siaton, Sta. Catalina, Bayawan City and Basay in Negros Oriental but also caters to residents of the adjacent Hinoba-an and Sipalay in Negros Occidental.
Only registered motorcycles in the LTO-Bayawan District Office and drivers with driver’s license were allowed to participate in the “motorada†and were qualified to the raffle promo with a brand new Kawasaki motorcycle for the grand prize.
An employee of the city’s garbage collection section of the Bayawan City local government, Ariel Bilocura, of Bulibuli, Barangay Banga, Bayawan City, was the lucky winner of the Kawasaki LCT 100.
Other raffle prizes included two bicycles, washing machine, gas stove, and sacks of rice, said Lawas.
The LTO-Bayawan District Office and the local government unit of Bayawan City, headed by Mayor Pryde Henry Teves, spearheaded the “motoradaâ€, with partners like Universal Robina Corporation.
Lawas rode on a motorcycle, along with other LTO-Bayawan District Office staff, local government workers and other motorists in the caravan that started from the boulevard and passed through the major city thoroughfares.
Present during the “motorada†were Sr. Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas of the Philippine National Police Regional Police Office 7 in Cebu and Bayawan City Councilor Junjun Carreon, representing Bayawan Mayor Teves and 3rd District Rep. Arnie Teves.
Following the motorcade, questions were raised during a program on different traffic rules and regulations and Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation Code of the Philippines with prizes also given to the winners with the correct answers.
Meanwhile, Lawas has reiterated her appeal to motor vehicle owners to have their units registered otherwise they will face strict sanctions.
She also disclosed that her office is strengthening their campaign against motorcycles without mufflers or with mufflers that do not meet government standards.
Lawas expressed gratitude to the Bayawan City LGU, the sponsors and the participants for making the “motorada†a success. (PNA)
