PGMA address touches hearts of Filipino people
Tacloban City (29 June 2005) -- Many Filipino hearts were touched as President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, sincerely implored the Filipino people to accept her apologies for whatever lapses in decisions she has made and rallied the people to be with her as she promised to work harder for the fulfillment and achievement of the phase 2 of her social and economic reform agenda.
Indeed, for a leader of her stature, it takes courage, humility and sincerity to be able to do what she did. Every Filipino in his right mind knows the President Arroyo's capacity to govern has been damaged and soiled because certain people deem it better to wash their compatriot's dirty linen in public.
The Presidency has been tarnished by men of evil designs, who will cease at nothing but seize the moment, even sell out the country's welfare to achieve their selfish obsessions by riding on the issues of the hour.
It is a shame that everyone at the top seems to squabble and wastes their time at character assassinations and scandals instead of working hard at nation building and good governance.
It is heartbreaking to note that our politicians stumble at each other's foot in their rush to become headline stealer instead of pooling their resources to promulgate ways and means of improving the economy and the quality of life and living of the poorest Filipino.
It is about time Filipinos wake up and realize that a handful's call for this and that at Manila's streets is not necessarily the voice of the majority. The parliaments of the street, much less of cellular texting have become mundane, irrational and ineffective.
Let this be the time to call on Manila and the national leaders for sobriety, for maturity and humility, to lead the Filipino people to greatness instead of chaos and divisiveness.
Let this be the start- for every Filipino to unite and support each other like one family- one nation every Filipino can be proud of. (PIA-8)
