Cebu Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez has alleged that most of the asphalting projects of the Cebu Provincial Government in various municipalities are substandard and can easily be wiped out by flash floods and ordinary flow of rainwater.
Sanchez said these substandard asphalting projects do not last long and are clearly a waste of taxpayers’ money.
But
Cebu Provincial Engineer Eulogio Pelayre denied the vice governor’s allegations, saying the province has no substandard asphalting project, and there have been no complaints form the barangay captains or the mayors.
Pelayre said the asphalting projects started during the time of former governor Pablo Garcia, now Cebu 2nd district congressman.
At least 723 kilometers of roads have been asphalted from the time of former governor Pablo Garcia in 2005 until the present administration of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.
Pelayre said that except for the portion in Naga City that was hit by flash floods, there is no report of asphalted roads being washed out. - pna
