The Cebu Provincial Government has offered to construct a building for the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City.
Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia had made a similar offer to the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7.
NBI Director Magtanggol Gatdula said that if Capitol has funds for a building, that might as well be diverted to buy forensic equipment.
Gatdula was accompanied by NBI 7 Director Edward Villarta and former NBI 7 director Medardo de Lemos, who now heads the NBI National Capital Region.
Gatdula said the agency serves the public and is apolitical.
Garcia said the property and the building will continue to be owned by the province.
There were no estimates yet on the cost of construction or how big a property the Capitol will allot for the building.
The province, though, will provide the NBI with an area inside its property in Lahug, Cebu City, where the headquarters of the CPPO and the Special Reaction Unit are located.
Gatdula said he will be back for the signing of the memorandum of agreement with Capitol. This will contain the roles and responsibilities of the province and NBI.
Gatdula said they will submit to the Department o Justice the list of investigative equipment they intend to purchase. - PNA
