CEBU CITY -- Several Cebu Provincial Board members are also set to join the Partido Demokratikong Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) and pledge their allegiance in a mass oath-taking ceremony at the Plaza Independencia here on Friday.
Among these provincial legislators is Board Member Glenn Bercede of the 6th District who went to see Governor Hilario Davide III on Thursday and informed him of his plan to join PDP-Laban.
Bercede said he is the only remaining politician in Mandaue City or in the 6th District yet to join the PDP-Laban. His fellow board member from the 6th District Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano has already taken his oath with the ruling party.
Bercede also revealed that PB members from the 1st, 2nd and 7th Districts would also take their oaths as new members of PDP-Laban on Friday.
They are PB Members Yolanda Daan and Raul Bacaltos of the 1st District; Edsel Galeos and Jose Mari Salvador of the 2nd District; and Christopher “Dong” Baricuatro and Jerome Librando of the 7th District.
Bercede said they would continue to support the governor and his programs even if they no longer belong to the same party.
Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, meanwhile, said PB Member Horacio Franco III would stay with the Liberal Party.
On the other hand, Danao City Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III, who is chairman of Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud), said they would not join PDP-Laban since they have a local party Bakud, but they would coalesce or align with President Rodrigo Duterte’s party.
Durano and President Duterte are second cousins. (PNA)
