Cavite LGU offers free urn, cremation services
« on: May 28, 2020, 04:18:27 PM »

DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite – Bereaved city residents here may now heave a sigh of relief from funeral expenses of their departed kin as the city mayor is now offering free cremation services plus urn.

City Mayor Elpidio F. Barzaga Jr., in his Facebook post on Friday, announced this to all city residents and registered voters to help them shoulder expensive burial expenses.

Barzaga’s post earned 556 positive reactions and 320 shares within an hour after the 12:52 p.m. message on Friday.

Aside from taking care of the dead in his turf, the city mayor likewise offered an affordable plan for non-residents with a minimal fee of PHP 8,000 covering the cremation services and urn.

Public cemetery “Panteon de Dasmariñas” officer-in-charge Liezl Camaganacan said the cremation services are held at the city’s public cemetery in Barangay Sampaloc IV.

According to Camaganacan, a cremation “dry run” was held last Nov. 11 to ensure a smooth flow of operations before announcing it to the public.

She estimated that cremation services are regularly priced at PHP19,000 to PHP25,000, excluding the urn.

The mayor’s project was well received by constituents, especially those in the low-income bracket and the marginalized sector, based on a preliminary assessment of their posted comments.

Cavite Vice-Governor Ramon ‘Jolo’ Revilla III was among the first to comment through social media on the mayor’s new program for the dead.

Revilla commended Barzaga for “a good job” and referred to him in the Filipino millennial lingo as “lodi” (for idol) and “petmalu” (a metaphor for awesome or fantastic).

Camaganacan advised availing parties to submit their request personally. She said the processing of free cremation services may take a minimum of three days.

For inquiries, Camaganacan may be reached through landline ‎(+6346-683-5599) or through mobile ‎(+63917-856-9120). (PNA)
