Casualty in Negros Oriental

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) of Negros Oriental has reported the number of deaths due to the magnitude 6.9 earthquake on Feb. 6 continues to rise.

As of Tuesday, the death toll was already placed at 48 with 61 other persons still missing, the PDRRMC said.

Of the dead, 23 were reported in Guihulngan City, nine in La Libertad, eight in Jimalalud, three in Tayasan, two each in Ayungon and Manjuyod, and one in Bindoy.

The PDRRMC also quoted Gov. Roel Degamo as saying that relief operations will continue for at least two more weeks.

He also ordered the Provincial Engineer’s Office to immediately start the initial rehabilitation phase of damage to provincial roads in affected areas.
