Inter-island passenger “RoRo†ships from Masbate, Romblon and Marinduque have benefited from the completion of the P480 million breakwater project at the Dalahican Port here.
Benjamin Ilao, Phil. Ports Authority manager at the Dalahican Port, said that since the Lucena Port Protection Project was completed last April, RoRo (roll on, roll off) vessels from the three neighboring provinces, namely Masbate, Romblon and Marinduque, have been docking more frequently at the Dalahican Port.
The breakwater project started in March 2007 as part of the Regional Nautical Highway Program of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Its phase 1 and phase 2 constructions were completed on target schedule, Ilao said.
Ben Chaves, president of Samahan ng Maliliit na Mangingisda ng Dalahican, said that the construction of the breakwater in Dalahican Port provides safety for their fishing vessels and houses built along the shorelines.
Chavez thanked Pres. Arroyo for showing concern for the marginalized fishermen in Barangay Dalahican. (PNA)
