BOTOLAN, Zambales, March 30 (PNA)-- Eleven persons were killed and four more were critically injured after a delivery van collided with a multi-cab Thursday afternoon, triggered by blown up tire along national highway here.
Police said the multi-cab was assigned as service vehicle of Sitio Ulpoy in Barangay Amungan, Iba, Zambales carrying 13 passengers while the delivery van belongs to Goldilocks.
According to sketchy report from Botolan police chief Chief Insp. Generico Binan, the delivery truck (XMD 934) was seen traveling fast at around 2:45 p.m. along national highway in Barangay Carael, Botolan towards south direction when one of the truck’s tires exploded a few meters from the Bucao Bridge.
The incident caused the truck to swerve to the left and collided head-on against the north-bound multi-cab, which had just crossed the Bucao Bridge, killing seven of the passengers on the spot, including the cab driver.
Died on the spot were Romulo Mantes, May Villanueva, Josephine Dorde, Marites Dela Cruz, Evangeline Capistrano, Linda Ruanto, Kenneth Ivan Capistrano, all of Amungan, Iba.
Zambales provincial administrator Atty. Izzele Iamly Deloso who led the Emergency Response Team, rushed the injured victims at the Iba District Hospital.
However, attending physicians declared three more victims as dead on arrival, namely Rose Candule, 50; Daniel Jay Dorde, 2, and Angelo dela Cruz, 1, all of Sitio Ulpoy.
One Ardin Villanueva, 6, also among the passengers, died hours later at the hospital.
Those still under observations are Manilyn Parilla, 27; Francis Matthew Parilla, 5, both of Amungan, Iba; and Dario Cruz Torres, 36, of Calumpit, Bulacan, and Jefferson Vray, 29, a resident of Macabebe, Pampanga.
Police learned that the passengers of the cab were returning home from watching a program in Ramon Magsaysay Technological University, Botolan Campus, which is just a few meters from across the Bucao Bridge.
Meanwhile, Governor Amor Deloso directed Izzele to extend all available assistance, including hospital and burial expenses of the victims.(PNA)
