CALASIAO, Pangasinan - Unidentified thieves broke into the regional office of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) here at dawn Monday, carting away a away two-layer safety vault which allegedly contained only P3,000.
A police report said the robbers barged into the Revenue Data Center (RDC) inside the BIR Regional Office building and carted away the safety vault measuring 2x3x1 and 1/2 feet from the office of Soliman Dabocol, head of RDC of the BIR Revenue Offices, presumably thinking it contained big amount of cash.
Investigation conducted by the Calasiao police showed the culprits gained entry into the BIR compound by climbing over an eight-feet high concrete fence after cutting the barbed wire on top.
Thereafter, they forcibly opened one of the sliding glass window located at the southern portion of the building to gain entry inside, then proceeded and opened the office of Dabocol.
The culprits were believed to have exited at the back of the BIR compound without being noticed by the guards.
Later that day, a phone call was received by the BIR regional office informing that the missing two-layer vault was discovered at the Calasiao Catholic Cemetery, at the back of the BIR compound.
