Press Release: FIVE (5) ILLEGAL FISHERS APPREHENDED IN CULABA
 
Biliran Police Provincial Office, Larrazabal, Naval, Biliran:  Biliran Police Provincial Office is working to ensure a sustainable future for our seas by combating illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing all over the province.

As a result thereof, on March 16, 2021 at around 7:05 AM elements of Culaba PS personnel conducted a seaborne patrol at the territorial seawater of Culaba, Biliran which resulted to the arrest of five (5) crews of “F/B JORODA” namely Eddie Catienza y Jercan (boat captain), Elvin Dela Cruz y Carcillar, Albert Sullano y Dela Cruz, Romeo Mataganas y Borromeo, and Eduardo Dela Cruz y Carcillar, all are residents of Brgy. Looc, Culaba, Biliran.

Said arrested persons were intercepted and accosted actually engaged in illegal fishing in Violation of Section 33 and 76 of Municipal Fishery Ordinance No. 17 Series of 2005 (Use of Ring Net Method “Tambugan”).

Among the items seized from arrested persons were the F/B JORODA with an estimated gross weight of more or less three (3) tons with an estimated value of Php 800,000.00 to include fishing paraphernalia’s.

Subsequently, confiscated items were brought to the shoreline of Culaba, Biliran while apprehended violators were brought to Culaba MPS for documentation and proper disposition.

PCOL JOEL T SERRANO commends the operating troops for the success of the operation and further stated that the arrest of Catienza and cohorts will served as a warning to all violators.

“Our Police Force will keep on protecting our marine resources and will intensify the conduct of police operation against violators despite the pandemic” says PCOL JOEL T SERRANO, Acting Provincial Director.
