PIA sets journalistic writing workshops for student writers, paper advisers

Iloilo City (1 July 2005) -- The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Regional Office here is set to hold its series of Basic Journalism Seminar-Workshops for incoming paper writers and publication advisers, for the year 2005.

The seminar-workshops which will be held in five batches, will start July 25-27, 2005, for High School participants in Iloilo City and Province, August 8-10 for Aklan and Antique, August 15-17, Capiz and Guimaras, and August 24-26, Bacolod City and Negros Occidental. The workshops in Panay will be held at the Fine Rock Hotel, while that in Negros and Bacolod will be deternmined later.

For college participants in the regional level, the schedule is August 1-3, 2005 and will be held at the Iloilo Grand Hotel.

These seminar-workshops aim to provide the participants with basic principles, skills and styles of news writing, feature writing, opinion articles and other journalistic skills including photo journalism and page design and help them develop the appropriate perspective and understanding of their role as campus paper writers.

Resource persons, who will facilitate the learning process and give valuable inputs will come from media practitioners in Iloilo and Bacolod cities and the academe as well as free-lance journalists.

The PIA has been holding these workshops for the last 31 years, in its continuing effort to help student writers acquire basic skills in journalism and an appreciation of the role of the campus press in molding young minds for good citizenship.
